Enhancing seafarers' wellbeing with Starlink communication service

Fuyo Kaiun is very delighted to announce that we would use Starlink communication in all fleet vessels to allow our seafarers to access high-speed internet communication. By using the satellite broadband Starlink, it is now possible to access the Internet at higher speeds than with previous services.

This would dramatically improve seafarers' motivation and well-being by the onboard communication environment with their families and friends in their home country during their off-duty hours. Our one of the vessels Flora Express has started using Starlink successfully since 5th September 2023. And, as result of this trial in our first ship, we will be going to promote the adoption in our full fleet for future of seafarers’ lifestyles onboard and safe operations. This is one step ahead for the wellbeing of our seafarers.

JOINT SHIP/SHORE EXERCISE – Simulation of Chemical Tanker Grounding followed by Flooding in the Engine Room

The JOINT SHIP/SHORE EXERCISE is held biannually on every year so as to evaluate and familiarize company’s emergency response system for serious marine accidents.

While she was in anchoring operation, the Master dropped anchor at out of designated anchor position which was appointed by Xiamen port control due to failure of the vessel’s speed control. Afterward, the Master received VHF call from the Port control that the vessel position is too close to the shallow depth area. Hence, the Master decided to heave up the anchor to move the anchor position. However, once the anchor left from the sea ground, the high current tide took over from ahead and she ran aground by stern. Subsequently, the engine room was getting flood due to damage of a hole on the steel plate at starboard side near bottom keel plate by size approximately 10 centimeters squares.
